For landowners
Are you a landowner?
Here’s some information to help you decide if Gap Filler could work for you and your property.
- WHAT’S THE COST AND RISK? Gap Filler removes the risk and expense to temporarily reactivate a vacant site. We use a non-commercial License to Occupy agreement to protect property owners from risk, and Gap Filler projects are covered by our own public liability insurance. Project costs are covered entirely by Gap Filler and our supporters, so the cost to you is nothing.
- WHAT ABOUT MY BUILDING PLANS? Property owners have nothing to lose. All Gap Filler seeks is short-term, temporary license to activate sites while they sit fallow waiting for resource consent, insurance money, building plans, and so on. No time frame is too short. A deadline for Gap Filler to vacate the site completely will be specified in the license agreement. Gap Filler projects can be very minimal in nature, with no construction or ongoing impact on the site.
- HOW ABOUT RIGHT NOW? Gap Filler can activate a site very quickly. We have numerous projects in the pipeline, ready to roll out with very little notice – so if you have land available now, and just for a short term, that’s fine for our purposes.
- WHAT’S TO BE GAINED? Gap Filler fills temporary gap sites with non-commercial creative projects to inject some vitality into the struggling city and bring members of the public back to hard-hit areas. A healthier and more active city can only benefit all property owners, including you, whatever your rebuilding plans may be.
- HOW WILL I BE ACKNOWLEDGED? The community response to the projects to date has been amazing. We have garnered local, national and international media attention, including segments on Radio NZ National, a 2010 art award in The Listener and more recently a Civic Trust Award here in Christchurch. We now have support from the Christchurch City Council as well, so we expect that property owners and other supporters have a lot to gain by participating, both in terms of positive publicity and accruing the goodwill of the community. And of course we will acknowledge your support on this website, on the activated gap site, and in all press materials relating to that particular project.
