Events in January
G’day folks. We have a bunch of stuff coming up in the next few weeks to keep you busy.
1) The Gap Filler Petanque Tournament at the LPC (Lyttelton Petanque Club)
Gap Filler presents its second Petanque Tournament, to be held on Tuesday 17 January, at the Lyttelton Petanque Club, London Street, Lyttelton. The first tournament was held back on December 5, 2010 at the very first Gap Filler project!
Greg Quinn, current title-holder and inaugural Gap Filler Petanque Champion, is about to head overseas for further playing experience and doesn’t have space in his luggage to fit the trophy. It’s time to offer up this prized award from its home on his mantelpiece once more for public viewing and contest.
Registrations open at 5.30 with play commencing at 6.30pm. This is a knockout tournament so you need to bring your best game to each match – winner takes all!
Bring a picnic, or avail yourself of one of the local eateries, and make an evening of it. The peculiarities of the LPC pitch offer unique challenges to the boules player, champion and novice alike. Pre-match practice is recommended. Boules are available to be borrowed from the Lyttelton Library, and from the Dairy. In case of rain, the tournament will be held on the 18th January.
2) “Heart is Where the Home is” – Book Exchange site, Cnr Barbadoes & Kilmore Streets, Saturday 21 January
Christchurch artist Judy Rogers invites you to share in her installation, on site from 10am until 4 pm.
Come along and experience the spiral journey: “It’s a response to the fragility of our sense of self which can be eroded by various situations including being a migrant or refugee [or through our experience of thousands of earthquakes]”
